Don’t be Ashamed if You’re Obese
Approximately 66% of Americans are either overweight or obese. Obesity becomes clinically severe or morbid when your Body Mass Index (BMI) reaches 40 or more. That's typically the level where obesity related health problems known as co-morbidities become serious. Some are life threatening. Morbid obesity is a chronic disease and our nation's leading cause of death, taking 400,000 lives annually.
There are many physical and environmental factors that contribute to morbid obesity. Some are beyond your control, including genetics and metabolism. The medical community agrees that morbid obesity is a complex disease. Attempts to lose weight with diet and/or exercise usually fail long term, and weight loss surgery is the only accepted treatment offering permanent results.
